When Leaders Misrepresent God
What happens when spiritual leaders misrepresent God, and where can we turn when human leaders fail us?
In Malachi 2:1–9, God confronts the priests of Israel for dishonoring his name, misleading his people, and treating worship carelessly. Yet this difficult passage also reveals God’s heart: he desires to give his people life and peace.
In this sermon, we explore the responsibility every person has to represent God faithfully within their home, workplace, church, neighborhood, and community. Most importantly, we see how the failure of Israel’s priests points us to Jesus Christ, our perfect and eternal High Priest. Jesus made atonement for our sins, continually intercedes for us, and invites the weary, ashamed, and broken to come to him for forgiveness, rest, life, and peace.
Whether you have followed Jesus for years, have been hurt by church leaders, or are simply wondering what Christianity teaches about God, leadership, worship, and grace, this message offers a hopeful reminder: our ultimate trust is not in imperfect people, but in Jesus.
